CANADIAN CRAFT AND HOBBY ASSOCIATION.

Special meetings were held in Calgary and Toronto in April 2010 to discuss the future of CCHA. A motion was presented:

That the Canadian Craft and Hobby Association (CCHA) board of directors negotiate the terms of a merger with the Craft and Hobby Association (CHA) based in Elmwood Park, NJ, USA.

The motion was approved by a majority of votes with over 62% participation from the membership. Just to emphasize this motion gives the board a mandate to negotiate, not an automatic acceptance of a merger.

Merger negotiations with CHA update:

The negotiation committee of Board President Paul Laplante (Stix 2/Kool-Tak, of Delson Quebec) along with director Richard Brown (Brown Bag Management, of Kitchener Ontario) and Arlyce Thompson (a retailer from Quilters Haven in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan) met with CHA’s President & CEO Steve Berger on May 13 and 14 at the CHA headquarters in Elwood Park, New Jersey. The original points put forward in the proposal to members at the April 7 & 8 special meetings in Calgary and Toronto were discussed. The committee reported on the negotiations to the CCHA board on May 27 and agreed that a final document will be prepared and presented to the board by June 30 2010 with a presentation date to members and a final vote taking place during the summer.  The terms discussed are in line with the original points put forward to the members. The target date for this merger is September 1st, 2010.

We would like to encourage all members of the crafting community in Canada to find out about both associations; more details can be found at
